It's been too long since I managed to get to a Punch Face Champions Promotions gig, but they are always really cool, with innovative and eclectic lineups. This gig really exemplified that!
First up we had Mathilde Fongen and Gavin dishing out some heartfelt folky songs to lull everyone into a false sense of security before the rest of the bands come on 😂 A really nice set and I should seek out more music in town outwith my usual as I'm definitely a punk/metal/weirdrock guy right now.
Before Stories made a rare-ish live appearance again, haunting the audience with their songs of emotions so deep it'll stay with you forevermore. Post-rock tunes and spoken (albeit very frantically) word blended in gratuitous harmony
I only caught a bit of the set from Puppet Midnight as I had to nip out, but it was a really interesting one man show with a bass and elaborate verbose song titles about dragons, wandering through Edinburgh and an axolotl. Really technically skilled and pretty madcap lyrics. I need to digest it, but yeah, really different :D
The AceTones took the mantle of headliners and wow, they for a band of young'uns they had a really well developed sound and played their set tight! Their songs covered a fair few genre, from mellow indie to a few with a punkier vibe but it all felt really cohesive and I'm really looking forward to catching them in town again and seeing where the music takes them. Their encore was an earlier version of one of their songs with a real tempo and power to it, I'd say harness that because it was rad!
